Despicable Me 3 Film Review

Illumination and Universal Pictures Home Entertainment present Despicable Me 3 on DVD, Blu-ray™, Blu-ray 3D™ and 4K Ultra HD on 6th November 2017. Gru, his wife Lucy, their adorable daughters, Margo, Edith and Agnes and the hilarious Minions are back!

Illumination, the studio that brought you Sing, The Secret Life of Pets and the Despicable Me franchise, continues the adventures of Gru and his family in Despicable Me 3.

Gru finds himself in the midst of a major identity crisis. But when a mysterious stranger shows up to inform Gru that he has a long-lost twin brother — a brother who desperately wishes to follow in his twin’s despicable footsteps — the former super-villain rediscovers just how good it feels to be bad. Together, the reunited siblings soon find themselves in an uneasy alliance to take down the elusive Balthazar Bratt, a former 1980s child star who seeks revenge against the world.

Academy Award nominee Steve Carell (Foxcatcher) reprises his hilarious role as reformed criminal mastermind Gru, as well as his newly discovered twin, Dru. The all-star voice cast also features Kristen Wiig (Bridesmaids, Despicable Me 2), Miranda Cosgrove (Despicable Me 1 & 2, School of Rock), Steve Coogan (The Secret Life of Pets, Philomena), Jenny Slate (Zootopia, The Secret Life of Pets), Dana Gaier (Despicable Me 1 & 2) and legendary singer and actress Julie Andrews (The Sound of Music, Mary Poppins).

Things only get worse for Gru when his army of Minions almost entirely abandon him in light of his refusal to return to his bad guy origins. And that’s when Gru discovers the existence of his, hitherto unknown, twin brother Dru (voiced too by Carrell).

Despicable Me 3 is an entertaining film with witty writing, a good plot and a villain who you won’t forget for a long time. The 80’s references throughout the film is likely to go over the heads of the kids but for the adults, you might find yourself laughing over all the 80s throwback references!

The film is silly, light-hearted and a must see for the whole family.
