Love it or loathe it, it is hard to avoid a bit of potty humour and come on now, what child doesn’t love a few toilet related jokes? Is there anything more satisfying than whoppee cushion? And pants. We love to talk about pants. Let's face it, we all need them. In fact, some of mine are almost as large as the ones worn by Captain Underpants himself. I think we may shop in the same places. Worrying....
Anyway, I digress. On to the movie! DreamWorks Animation presents the year's most hysterically heroic comedy, Captain Underpants: The First Epic Movie. An all-round entertaining watch for adults and enchanting for all children who are looking for comedy and entertainment. Available on 4K Ultra HD, Blu-Ray and DVD from 4th December 2017.
Based on the hugely popular book series by Dav Pilkey, the story follows two prank-loving best friends who hypnotize their angry principal into believing he's Captain Underpants, the hero of the boys' many comic books.
In addition to all the jokes about poop, Uranus (I know...funny, right?), and other bodily functions, of course! Viewers can expect some fun, superhero action when the villain (Professor Poopypants) attacks the school. It’s fast paced and jam packed with many moments are lightened via slapstick humour and animation you’ll love.
The plot (based on Dav Pilkey’s books) concerns two cheeky, comic-strip-creating best friends. George (Kevin Hart) and Harold (Thomas Middleditch) accidentally force their grumpy high-school principal (Ed Helms) to behave like one of their favourite characters — a superhero (also voiced by Helms) who feels inordinately comfortable in his undies. Principal Krupp (Ed Helms) definitely is in the camp that believes that these two are a menace and he makes it his goal to put an end to their shenanigans. He's unable to catch them in the act so he has to endure their constant misadventures until the school tattletale Milton (Jordan Peele) records them messing with his project for the science fair.
Krupp sees this as the opportunity to move them into separate classes, effectively destroying their friendship. There's little hope but in an act of desperation, George tries to hypnotize Krupp and they come up with the idea to turn him into Captain Underpants. I won’t spoil too much more as you’ll want to watch the movie!
In summary, it’s a fun and lighthearted movie with some subtle life lessons underneath, which teach the boys about the importance of friendship, teamwork and empathy. So what’s not to love?
We really enjoyed this movie and the children have since watched it over and over again. I mean, who wouldn’t want to stand in their underwear, shouting... TRA-LA-LAA!
Captain Underpants – we salute you.
