Getaway Weekend in Las Vegas

August 27, 2018

There are hundreds of things to do in Las Vegas despite being oddly plonked in the kiddie of the desert. Whether it’s a girls trip or a sneaky getaway with a loved one, here’s a guide of what we did on a mini break in Vegas and what you could do to.

We stayed at The Wynn resort and Casino, winner of the most Forbes Five star awards in the world, Wynn is the premier Las Vegas resort destination. It is known as one of the most elegant and intimate of the hotels in Las Vegas. Despite the glitz and flashing lights of Vegas, Wynn's main entrance, feels beautiful and tranquil.

On arrival you will walk across floral mosaic tiles into a naturally lit lobby full of moving floral sculptures—like a floral carousel surrounded by trees and giant floral bouquets hanging from the ceiling. It’s no wonder this is one of Vegas’ most Instagrammed spots. We were blown away by its beauty from the moment we arrived.

We stayed in a Wynn Deluxe Resort King room. The decor was ideal for a relaxed long weekend with light woods, neutral and camel-colored carpets. Perfectly calming to sleep off the jet lag. When we woke, we called in-room dining. The breakfast was fabulous. So much so, that we ordered breakfast in our room every morning for our entire stay. The room was so spacious, there was no need to go down to one of the restaurants.

My husband ordered a "fitness breakfast" (egg white omelet with vegetables, toast and fruit), plus a green juice and tea. To walk off the breakfast, the Wynn gives you easy access to next door's Venetian which has plenty of shopping and you can walk there over a bridge from Wynn.

My Top 5 Must Do’s

  1. Fly over the Grand Canyon

I believe you can’t travel all the way to Vegas and not experience the Grand Canyon, USA’s best known natural attraction. Measuring more than 275 miles long and more than a mile deep, it’s an awe-inspiring sight. We flew with Sundance Helicopters and enjoyed the Grand Canyon Air Tour.

We flew over Hoover Dam, Fortification Hill, Indian Pass and Lake Mead. It was truly breathtaking. During the flight, there were plenty of beautiful photo opportunities of the Canyon’s interior landscape and the Colorado River.

After soaring into the Grand Canyon, we descended 4,000 feet below the Canyon Rim and landed at their private landing site for a champagne picnic overlooking the mighty Colorado River. Extravagant? No way! It’s a must do. Seeing the canyon should be something that’s on everyone’s bucket list.

  1. Le Rêve - The Unmissable Show

Take advantage of a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to experience Le Rêve – The Dream. Set in the aqua theatre-in-the-round Le Réve — The Dream at Wynn Las Vegas immerses you into an intimate world of fantasy and wonder. Featuring high-flying aerialists, daring choreography and heart-pounding live music, this is one dream from which you'll never want to awake.

Hands down, it’s the best show I’ve ever seen in my life and no other show since has blown me away like Le Rêve. It is Cirque du Soleil on steroids. Please don’t leave Vegas without seeing it.

  1. Pretend you’re 21 and go clubbing

If nightclubs are your thing (or used to be), then Wynn offers some of the top clubs in the World. Embrace your younger self (you know you want to) and dive right in. Concierge can get you some entry tickets so you don’t have to queue later. Encore has two nightclubs with XS and Surrender, both of which host big name DJs.

Intrigue Nightclub, at the Wynn (which we went to) is a captivating 14,000 square foot club with breathtaking waterfalls and innovative special effects such as pyrotechnics and state of the art sound and DJ equipment. Cedric Gervais performs at Intrigue often. We stayed up almost all night and met lots of new friends!

  1. Dinner at Paris Las Vegas

Have dinner here and have a memorable (romantic even) evening at one of the  finest dining spots in Las Vegas. Floor-to-ceiling windows showcase the restaurant's stunning surroundings and neighbouring water show.

The Eiffel Tower Restaurant experience is intended to evoke the same romantic feeling of traveling to the Paris (oh,la,la). The restaurant sits more than 100 feet above the bustling action on the strip giving breathtaking view of the Bellagio fountains. The critically acclaimed food is as amazing as the views, so sink into a cozy booth or window-side banquette. The food presentation is a feast for the eyes as well as the stomach. Chef J. Joho’s menu is a carefully curated list of French gems, such as Whole Boneless Dover Sole, and Foie Gras Torchon with duck prosciutto and fig.

  1. Have fun in New York, New York

Don’t forget to have fun in New York, New York. The best of The Big Apple is at New York-New York Hotel and Casino. Begin strolling across the Brooklyn Bridge, pass New York skyscrapers, and end at a Statue of Liberty replica. There’s even a Coney Island-style roller coaster, The Big Apple Coaster along with an amusement park with midway-style carnival games, bumper cars and shooting galleries.

And if that’s not enough, there’s plenty more to do. For example, you could swim with the Mirage dolphins (with a little help from a pro, of course). Take a lunch at the stunning Mandarin Oriental Hotel or book tickets to see one of your favourite musicians. From Lionel Richie to Jennifer Lopez, many big stars play here, so check in advance ‘who’s in town’ when considering your trip and you could be in for a big surprise!

And finally, in today’s world of Instagram-worthy destinations, the “Welcome to Fabulous "Las Vegas" sign has to get a final little mention. As one of the most popular selfie spots in the city, it gets quite crowded throughout the day. Arrive early for your best chance at a clear shot of you and the sign or aim for sunset for the perfect lighting.

So in summary, enjoy Vegas and go with the flow! If you do, you’ll undoubtedly have a blast. We sure did and came back with memories to last a lifetime.
