I was kindly asked to go along to Bluewater shopping centre in Greenhithe to support a charity event called The Giving Tree.
The Giving Tree at Bluewater is proudly supported by Heart. Charities across Kent & Sussex benefit each year from Heart’s Giving Tree so you can be part of something special this Christmas. Last year you helped nearly 15,000 children have a happier Christmas but this year, Heart want to support even more children.
The Giving Tree at Bluewater, in association with Heart, gives shoppers the opportunity to donate a gift and help give local disadvantaged children a better Christmas. Just head to the giant 20-foot tree, located in the Upper Mall outside Marks and Spencer. You will be able to go along and donate a gift any day upto 23rd December 2018.
I went along to give a gift myself. All you have to do is select a tag, buy a present and hand it to one of the Hearts Angels. Your present will then be wrapped and given to the child to give them a reason to smile this Christmas. I chose to buy a gift for ten year old Florence and her gift will make her way to her for Christmas day.
The presents will all be delivered in time for Christmas Day to a number of children’s charities, including East Kent Mencap, Duchenne UK, Ellenor Hospice, Young Lives Foundation, NSPCC Kent and Medway and many more amazing charities. As an ambassador for the charity Ellenor, it was my absolute pleasure to go along to help make a difference.
Ellenor is the UK’s first children’s full hospice at home service, and still one of only a very few acute services providing oncology and end of like care to seriously ill babies, children and young adults in the home.
They support children receiving chemotherapy in their own homes – this can reduce the need for hospital visits enabling the child to remain around their families at a difficult time. In addition, they offer short breaks and respite for children, as well as various pre and post bereavement support for the whole family. A Short Break is fun for the child, and the siblings, and can free up some special time for the family and carers. They have a number of group respite and short breaks for patients and siblings including their ‘Friday Fun Club’ for under 5s and ‘Junior Kids’ for five to ten-year olds.
How does it work?
1. Head to the Giving Tree on the Upper Mall, outside M&S
2. Choose a boy's or girl's name tag, which will also show an age
3. Select an appropriate gift from Bluewater for the child you have selected
4. Deposit the unwrapped gift into the Drop Box at the Giving Tree
5. Take a picture and share with your friends to help us to support local charities
6. Enjoy the warm feeling from making a child's Christmas special
What Happens Next
Make sure you drop your gift off by Sunday 23rd December, so the presents can be wrapped and delivered to local charities in time to give thousands of children a little reason to smile this Christmas.
This is a great charity event from Heart and it just shows how little acts of kindness can make a big difference.
There are over 40 charities that we will be supporting across Kent and Sussex to make a disadvantaged child's Christmas truly magical this year. Find out more here
